Young workshop talent prefers to work in more digitalized repair businesses
CAR team · 12/09/2025
Young professionals entering the automotive repair industry want to work in digitalized companies. The same goes for students pursuing vocational training to learn how to maintain and repair vehicles. From active reception to vehicle delivery, they prefer workshops equipped with technological tools that carry out tasks efficiently, without errors, and help them experience the rewarding feeling of a job well done. When given a choice, they opt for companies that use digital solutions to manage the workshop efficiently, applying the knowledge acquired during their academic training.
According to a study conducted by the Spanish Federation of Automotive Workshop Entrepreneurs (CONEPA), a business organization with which Cloud Active Reception (CAR) collaborates, during AULA 2024—International Student and Educational Offer Fair—the two most attractive aspects of working in a workshop for students and future technicians or business managers are: salary and working in a technological environment. The least attractive aspects are manual and physically demanding work, and pursuing a profession that is not sufficiently recognized.
Working in a vehicle repair workshop is a career path considered by less than half of young people when deciding to pursue vocational training. Most of them lean toward highly technical roles, more as mechanics than as painters or bodywork specialists, and more with passenger cars than motorcycles, with very little interest in industrial vehicles. However, when evaluating the type of repair company they would prefer to work for—whether in technical, administrative, or management roles—those that embrace digitalization across all functional areas of the workshop stand out.
In other words, if your workshop is struggling to attract young talent, keep in mind that professionals taking their first steps in the industry are already “digital natives”—people who highly value the use of electronic tools in their professional work. Technology has become a competitive advantage for workshops seeking to recruit young professionals.
How digitalized is your workshop? Are your current work processes attractive to your employees? And to that young talent you might be trying to recruit?
At Cloud Active Reception, we offer the digital suite that improves your business’s operational efficiency and customer satisfaction—the kind of environment they want to work in.
