A personal trainer in the company: the successful case of Inforserveis.

There is no need to convince anyone of the benefits of sport. However, the hardest thing is to convince you to go to the gym. But, what if I have a gym in the office? At the beginning of 2021, Inforserveis adapted a gym in its offices and incorporated Toni Mesas, Graduate in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences by the INEFC of Barcelona, to its work team.

“Pau (CEO of Inforserveis) proposed me to collaborate within the company and to set up a gym adapted for the staff of the company. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse, as it allowed me to continue practising my profession but in a slightly different way”, says Toni.

 Why an in-house gym?

In a company where the main activity is computer programming, it is important to prioritise postural correction. The aim is to provide healthy and safe ergonomic guidelines, as well as the idea of breaking with a sedentary lifestyle, which is increasingly linked to an increase in injuries and illnesses.

What about workers who already do some form of physical activity on a regular basis?

At the start of training, a questionnaire is carried out on the objectives, their physical preparation, any previous pathologies or injuries…And assessment of their initial weight and constitution is also carried out.

In other words, they are personalised training sessions.

Of course! Each member of the Inforserveis team has the capacity to decide what physical –and emotional- aspects they want to work on: they decide whether they come purely to tone and exercise their body, or rather to disconnect and have a good time while practising sport. Emphasis is placed on posture and correct technical execution, and attempts are made to improve muscle toning, as it helps body balance and prevents joint wear and tear.

And that should be the company’s responsibility?

It is a very effective work tool as it improves health and well-being at work and, ultimately, work performance. When a person trains, at the same time as improving their physical capacity, they are also training in their mind. In each session, there is fun, laughter and a break from work routines. Also, why not, you disconnect from your daily chores. For me, the most important thing is to set up circuits and sessions in which everyone has a good time, disconnects and, above all, becomes a team and a company. At the end of the day, by helping the worker to improve their health, at the same time the employer gets more motivated, happy workers who are more involved in their work.
